The present study aims to explore the semantic scope of the verse
“Iyyaka Na’budu wa Iyyaka Nasta’in” as an epistemological and
behavioral foundation within Islamic intellectual thought. This
research systematically expounds upon the theological, ethical,
pedagogical, psychological, and sociological dimensions of the
verse, addressing its pivotal role in organizing individual and social
life. Employing a descriptive-analytical method with an
interdisciplinary approach, the study utilizes library research and
qualitative content analysis to examine key concepts within the
framework of contemporary humanities theories. The findings
indicate that this verse, transcending a mere theological proposition,
serves as a comprehensive model for faithful living. By synthesizing
“worship” ('ibadah) and “seeking aid” (isti’anah), the verse
elucidates the doctrine of “the position between two positions” (al-
amr bayn al-amrayn), resolves the paradox of determinism and free
will, and institutionalizes the ethical foundations of responsibility
and humility. From a sociological perspective, the emphasis on the
plural pronoun reinforces collective identity and social solidarity,
while in the psychological domain, it promotes spiritual well-being
by endowing actions with meaning and enhancing resilience.
Furthermore, the rhetorical shift (iltifat) inherent in the verse
facilitates the process of internalizing these teachings. In conclusion,
the verse provides a coherent framework for connecting revelatory
teachings with the requirements of the contemporary lifeworld in
both individual and social dimensions
